Thousands of people gather at an opposition rally on Thursday April 28, 2011 in Singapore. Opposition parties will contest the most parliamentary seats since independence in 1965 in the city-state's general elections next week. The ruling People's Action Party or PAP has dominated Singapore politics for more than five decades, but opposition leaders hope to exploit voter discontent over soaring housing prices, a surge in foreign workers, and rising income inequality.(AP Photo/Wong Maye-E)
Tonight was the first night of rallies.
Made my way down to the Worker's Party rally site as part of my elections assignment for the AP and man it got crowded.
First time in election coverage history our police didn't allow accredited media at the stage front - something everyone is very upset about because it only means that we can't work.
It's really tough to be in the crowd when the crowd looks like this. Besides, we need pictures of the leaders.
Met a TV crew who came later from a PAP rally and they were allowed to go up to the stage and shoot supporters and leaders as well from up front. I know it's awesome being in the thick of things but hey we gotta get the party leaders too.
What a waste of some good coverage angles this evening and I dunno but it seems a little unfair for us trying to work and not allowed in for no apparent reason.... just sayin'.
